Emily Schreiber's Laps for Cystic Fibrosis!
Wednesday, July 05, 2006
A special Wednesday morning update: This morning, we showed our campers a Today Show segment that aired Monday about June camper Emily Schreiber's amazing efforts to raise over $600,000.00 dollars to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. This was Emily's fifth summer at Illahee, and she is indeed an amazing young lady as you will discover from the segment. After we aired the profile, I talked about how important it is to follow your own convictions, and how often it seems that one person can't make a difference. Emily's efforts are a terrific example of how they can!Every morning during the June session, I awoke to Emily's morning PT routine in our living room. As a Pineview camper, our house was closer than the Wishing Well, and since infection is always a concern, it was away from other sick campers. Besides breathing inhalation treatments, she also took a turn with a vest that shakes the mucous from her lungs. Many times, she was two winks this side of sound asleep as she completed her therapy.
Emily's website can be found here. I hope that you will visit the site and make a donation to help find a cure for Emily, Caroline (another June camper who has CF), and all the others who struggle with this awful disease. There is a cure out there, and with your help and Emily's, it is likely it will be in time to help this generation. I know that you are busy, and it is easy to forget, but Emily has shown us all that we can make a difference! Tell her it's from her friends at Camp Illahee!
