Is it Time to Build an Ark?

We have had almost fourteen inches of rain over the past six days! The picture is of Barclay Road about a mile from camp where it crosses the French Broad river. Many of our counselors will remember it as it is a popular running route for our joggers. Luckily, camp is on high ground, and we have fared pretty well. As I write, I can hear James and his blower clearing wet leaves and sticks from the camp road.
After writing nightly during the summer months while camp is in session, the hiatus from blogging has gone quickly. We have been really busy at camp! Laurie and Gretchen are in Hilton Head for a couple of days at the Southeastern Section of the American Camp Association fall conference. They are framing the conference with a pair of camper reunions in Charleston (already completed) and Savannah (tomorrow night). We have begun the fall schedule but will add many more dates in the coming weeks. I spent the better part of two weeks looking through all of the FUN video footage that was taken this summer and editing it into our road show movie! Initial reports are that it is the BEST EVER! (Imagine that...) To check out our travel schedule, click here.
We have also been busy in the office processing applications for 2010! It is truly going to be an amazing summer. Illahee will celebrate its 90th birthday this coming season, and we plan to kick it off the weekend of May 15th, 2010 with an alumnae reunion weekend for Illahee alumnae 21 or older! It is an event that will be sure to please so stay tuned for details.
What's the deal with the chicks? I raised chickens when I was a kid, and have always enjoyed having a flock around. It's been several years, but Turner and I are going to build a chicken wagon (coop on wheels), and by springtime, we'll have Illahee farm fresh eggs. These little Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons sure are cute though. Think Summer!
