Chilly Winter

We have had the best Thanksgiving in the Heavenly World. Camp is not quite as fun without all of you here to give it "super spirit" but it is still pretty darn fun! Early winter weather has finally set in, and it has been crisp and beautiful! The bright blue skies have been gorgeous lately. Our Canada goose pair has returned for a stayover on their trek south for the winter. They will return in the spring on their way home to hatch some new babies. Laurie, Gordon, Gardner and Turner hosted Gordon's family for Thanksgiving and were joined by newlyweds Kim (Wenzl) and Jeff Aycock for a Thanksgiving feast. Yummm! The Strayhorns have been spending some time lately exploring new hikes around camp for the new mountaineering program to start next summer. This week, they headed up to John Rock near the trout hatchery, and yesterday headed up to the parkway for a hike at 5700 feet (that's more than a mile) to Devil's Courthouse in some fresh fallen snow. It was a beautiful day and though chilly, the picnic of leftover turkey sandwiches on Bracken Mtn. Bakery bread sure was yummy too! Keep an eye out this week for a brand new newsletter in the mail that we sent out last Wednesday. It won't be long before current and last year's campers will receive a surprise in the mail. O.K. So maybe not a surprise, but it sure is going to be fun to relive all of those camp memories! And this year, it will be bundled up so it will arrive intact! Gordon, James and Jimmy will be busy this week getting those shingles on McLeod to complete its new roof! Think warm thoughts...Kris, Kim, Laurie and Gordon will continue working on contacting all of those staff from last summer reminding them of the early sign up treat if they get their contract in this week! We wish you the best these holidays and send many blessings your way. We dream of the days in the near future when we will all gather again in the Heavenly World!
