On the Road Again!

Thursday, October 25, 2007

We are having so much fun seeing so many of our great Illahee girls and sneaking a preview of the 2007 camp movies and DVD! Don't worry if you can't get to one of the showings, you'll have a chance to see it some time in the not too distant future! It is a lot of fun, and longer than ever...

Gordon left Sunday afternoon and arrived in Houston at Mariah and Allison Giblin's home for a visit with our south Texas Illahee girls before departing for Dallas and the three Monger sisters. With Pizza and lots of other good stuff to eat, we had a crowd of both returning and new campers and their moms and dads. The last stop on that tour was Memphis at the home of Ali and Sam MacQueen. Though it was a rainy day and a little bit spooky with all of the Halloween decorations, we had a great turn-out there as well.

Kris and Carol got to visit with Megan Bel and Rosie Haney in DC before a showing at Rosie's house. Some of you may remember Ellison's mom as one of our guest photographers this summer. That is her picture of the girls in the hammock. Check out other pictures here. The next stop on the Thelma and Louise tour was Richmond with a terrific group at the Wallace's home. And the monster show turned out to be Charlotte with well over 100 folks in attendence! Former staffers Day Peery and Helen Hull even made the trip in as well as some of our all-star counselors from Davidson.

Gordon and Laurie leave this weekend for a quick trip to Ormand Beach on Sunday. Don't worry the rest of Florida. You're not scheduled yet, but we'll be there! We're just waiting for it to get cold up here! Be sure and check the travel schedule and think camp!

Fall Travel Season Begins!

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

It is that time of year again, and the debut of the 2007 Camp Movies was a terrific affair in Atlanta on Sunday. Loads of Illahee girls and their friends joined Laurie, Gordon and Kris at Olivia and Ann Strader's home in Buckhead. Atlanta Representative Julia Pinkston was on hand with camper and daughter Emily to help host the pizza party. The first reviews are in and everyone agrees that this may be the best DVD ever! A hint when you see it..."it' ain't over til it's over!"

Atlanta was just a warm-up. Starting this weekend, Gordon will be in Texas and Memphis, and Kris and Carol head up the east coast. Check out our travel schedule so you can be sure to join us!

Enrollment and Wait List Letters on the Way!!

Sunday, October 07, 2007

So, a lot of folks thought that the guys were insulating the tunnels for the winter! (see post and picture below) Good guess, but since no one really tries to stay warm in the tunnels during the winter(except maybe a few white squirrels), we usually don't insulate them! No, Brian and James were using their needlecraft skills to fix the Moonwalk! Those of you who have enjoyed the Moonwalk know that recently a big hump appeared in the middle of the jump, sending would-be jumpers careening to the walls. That's still big fun, but a recent rain sent the guys down into the depths of the moonwalk where they sewed the baffles back to the seams. You can't do all that good work and not give it a few test jumps!

We have finally finished the big puzzle that is 2008 enrollment, contacted all of those families who did not get into their first session, and have sent letters on their way! We are super-excited about 2008...REVIVAL has hit home, and everyone is diligently working to make sure that next summer is the BEST SUMMER EVER! Besides enrollment, we have also been working on lots of media projects. Gordon is putting the finishing touches on the 2008 DVD...just in time for the fall travel season. Check back this week as we will be updating the calendar daily as we schedule camper reunions for different cities. I think you're going to like seeing the video! Our first reunion is in Atlanta a week from today! (Sunday the 14th) Bring a friend! (especially young friends who may be ready for camp in a year or two). Stay in touch and let us know what you are up to! Think Camp!
