It's All-Star Season!
Monday, February 09, 2009
Even though Punxsutawney Phil has predicted another six weeks of winter, at camp we're seeing our first signs of good things to come! Cold as it is, we've had hints of summer with recent recruiting and hiring of what's sure to be our BEST staff EVER. All Stars indeed!
All-Stars...a cast of star performers. What else? dedicated, loyal, talented, positive, consistent, team player, FUN! Does that conjure up memories of a favorite counselor from past summers at Illahee?
We've recently signed on more veteran All-Stars: Emily Mehta, Mary Catherine Alexander, Caroline Warren, Mary Valentine, Kat Owen, Jamie Knapp, Ellie Weatherly, Megan Milcinovic, and Rosanne Sullivan; along with former campers: Lindsey Guye, Mary Cate Dukes, Molly Mechanic, Ann Sample, and an amazing team of Junior Counselors (led by Virginia Pleasants). As if it couldn't get any better, our brand new top-notch counselors and crew will only add to what's gearing up to be the BEST SUMMER EVER!
Rosanne Sullivan recently sent photos of a trip to Europe...here she is with camper Caroline Hubbard in Salzburg. Rumor has it, they also took a photo posing as the letters CI...further showing that camp is never far from anyone's heart!
The Heavenly World sure is on the hearts and minds of our counselors. Here are some recent quotes (25 Random Things on Facebook) from veteran All-Stars..."Camp Illahee is the best thing I have ever allowed myself to do. I love my camp friends and the campers I have gotten to meet. It has also taught me so much about life.""I have been all over the world, but Camp Illahee in Western North Carolina is still one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I have made some of the best friends that I could ever hope to have there, and it will always be a significant part of my life.""I refused to go to sleep-away camp as a child, but at 21 I started working at Camp Illahee and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made!""Camp changed my life. I was never a camper, but being a camp counselor changed who I am. That's why I think it's so important to remember that while summer camp is primarily for the children, it can change the lives of staff as well.""Being a camp counselor is the best job ever!"
One thing is for sure: The Stars will be shining brightly at Camp Illahee for summer '09! We'll see you soon!
