Cabin staff
Wearing different hats and having a variety of experiences is the hallmark of a summer at Illahee. As a cabin staff member you are a mom, older sister, friend, mentor, and teacher all in one. You will live in a cabin with six or seven campers and a co-counselor. During the day, you teach activities, usually in at least two different activity areas. You will make a positive difference by sharing new ideas, teaching with creativity and enthusiasm, and building relationships with the campers and staff around you.
Non-cabin staff
Some activities, such as horseback riding, rock climbing, and kayaking require advanced skills and expertise in order to teach. If you have a lot of experience and a passion for one of these areas, but also have a genuine love for and interest in working with children, a non-cabin staff position might be right for you. These positions allow you to focus on a specific activity and require you to wear fewer hats. Ultimately, you might feel like the horses are your campers and the river is your cabin, but the experience and impact you will make is equally rewarding. For these positions, as well as adult staff and support staff, we have limited staff housing options.
Camp Illahee is now accepting applications for staff positions. We are seeking enthusiastic, creative, mature individuals who love working with children and enjoy being outdoors. We receive a large number of staff applications each year and hire the very best staff. So, we take the application process seriously. This includes carefully screening each application, checking all references, doing a background check, and conducting a thorough interview, preferably in person and at camp. We give priority to applicants who are available for the entire summer season.
Being a counselor is very much like being a parent. The real reward is knowing that you have given a big part of yourself to children; they will carry that with them for the rest of their lives. In that spirit, Camp Illahee only seeks staff who want to make personal contributions to the children they serve.

DRUGS, ALCOHOL & TOBACCO HAVE NO PLACE AT CAMP
Consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors (under 21) while employed by Camp Illahee is prohibited and is grounds for dismissal. Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages may be brought into camp and no one may return to camp under the influence. The use of any controlled substance while employed by Camp Illahee is absolutely PROHIBITED. Persons violating this policy will be subject to termination of employment and legal prosecution. These policies apply to staff during the entire contract period: when on duty, on time off and between sessions. Smoking or the use of other tobacco products is prohibited anywhere on camp property.

Please remember to be complete with addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of references and former employers. All references will be contacted by mail, phone or email.
3. Interview
Upon receipt of your application, we will call you to set up a time for an interview. Our preference is for you to interview at camp so that you can see first-hand where you will be working/living and to give you the opportunity to ask questions. If that is not convenient, we will also arrange to interview you at your college (or residence) or over the phone.
