Springtime at Illahee

We are counting down the days until camp opens and we know our campers and staff are looking forward to being with their Illahee family this summer. Our year-round camp family and director team has grown with Marie and Turner starting work here last Monday! Turner has been helping Gordon open camp and Lindsey is helping Marie with the ins and outs of activity schedules. They are settled in their home on Hannah Ford Farm complete with baby ducks and a hive of honeybees. Marie is getting the garden ready to plant.

While Marie and Turner were settling in on the farm last weekend, Gardner was running the Ville to Ville an 80-mile team relay race from Asheville to Greenville. Maybe she’ll head up Running Club this summer! This is my favorite season in Brevard with dogwoods in bloom and trees just turning green. I’ve enjoyed hiking in Pisgah and on the farm and remembering that this time last year we were in “hibernation.”
It’s great to be moving toward a summer with campers and counselors! Gretchen is orienting counselors and finishing up hiring the last staff positions. She and Gardner have big ideas for staff orientation, and we are putting together cabins, creating activity schedules and bringing in Ship’s Store merch and supplies for the summer. Summer 2021…. sure to be the best summer ever!
Cheers,
Laurie
